Part-Time ESL Instructor
Part-Time ESL Instructor Position (Morning and Evening Program in Columbia, MD)
The Lingua Franca Institute is currently recruiting part-time ESL instructors to teach adult international students for our morning and evening program in Columbia, MD for the Fall 2014 Semester. LFI seeks energetic instructors possessing both intuitive skill and a passion for teaching, and rewards instructors with competitive compensation for such services. The positions available for the Fall 2014 semester meet every Monday -- Thursday at the following times:
Monday – Thursday, 9:00 am – 1:30 pm;
Monday –Thursday, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm ;
Monday –Thursday 8:00 – 10:30 pm.
The positions will start on September 3, 2014 and end December 17, 2014.
A mandatory teacher orientation will be held at the end of August.
Compensation: We offer teachers a salary of $21.00 per hour.
Preferred and Necessary Qualifications:
Candidates can demonstrate an interest and competence in the field of ESL in number of ways:
-- Bachelor’s degree with ESL teaching experience: Bachelor's degrees in education and English are preferred, but all majors will be considered. Previous experience in ESL instruction is preferred, but candidates can demonstrate competence and interest in education through experience in multiple forms of instruction.
-- ESL/TESOL/TEFL certification and/or a Master's degree in English or TESOL preferred but not required. Candidates possessing previous experience in ESL will be given strong consideration.
-- Teach a Language Arts and an Oral Communication class.
-- Involve students in the language acquisition process in a student-centered, community of learning.
-- Demonstrate a willingness to use a variety of activities that encourage speaking and listening interactions.
-- Assess individual needs of students and collective ability of the class in order to tailor teaching materials to an appropriate degree of challenge.
-- Assign homework and administer tests to monitor progress of students.
-- Update and manage attendance and student performance records and periodically submit data to administration.
-- Attend the teacher orientation and monthly teacher meetings.
-- Contingent upon experience and demonstrated ability, instructors could be given additional opportunities to develop and refine the LFI multi-level ESL curriculum.
